Teslas are common across New England now, and the assumption that they need no service is only half right. There is no oil to change and no exhaust to rust through, but everything that touches the road still wears — and in this climate, some of it wears differently than owners expect. Auto Care Plus services the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X at our New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine locations.
Brakes Need More Attention, Not Less
This is the most misunderstood part of EV ownership. Regenerative braking does most of the slowing, so the friction brakes are used lightly and rarely get hot. In a salt climate that is a problem: caliper slide pins seize, rotors develop deep surface corrosion, and pads can bond to rotors. Tesla itself recommends periodic brake caliper cleaning and lubrication in cold-weather regions. We perform that service, and it is one of the most genuinely useful things we do for EV owners here.
Tires and Alignment Are Consumables
Teslas are heavy and produce instant torque, which wears tires faster than a comparable gasoline car. Alignment is critical to getting reasonable tire life, and Model 3 and Model Y in particular are sensitive to it. We perform alignment to Tesla specifications and can fit winter tires, which transform these cars in snow.
Suspension, Glass, and the 12-Volt Battery
Control arm bushings and upper control arms are known wear items, often announcing themselves as a creak or clunk at low speed. The 12-volt or low-voltage battery causes a wide range of confusing faults when it weakens. Auto glass replacement is also something we handle, including ADAS camera calibration afterward where required.
Getting Through Winter Efficiently
A few practical things make a large difference. Precondition the cabin and battery while still plugged in, so the energy comes from the wall rather than the pack — this is the single biggest winter range improvement available. Expect slower charging when the battery is cold, especially at a Supercharger you arrive at without navigating to it, since navigation triggers pack preconditioning. Keep the charge level higher than you would in summer for the same trip. And understand that a heat pump equipped car handles cold far better than a resistance-heated one, which explains a lot of variation between model years.
Service Without the Queue
Brake service, tires, alignment, suspension repair, cabin filtration, and glass are all available at every Auto Care Plus location, usually far sooner than a service center appointment.
