Schedule Service

Few brands fit New England like Subaru. Symmetrical all-wheel drive, generous ground clearance, and a wagon shape that swallows ski gear made the Outback, Forester, Crosstrek, Ascent, Impreza, WRX, and Legacy fixtures in every driveway from the Seacoast to the White Mountains. Auto Care Plus services all of them, and our ASE-certified technicians understand the specific demands of the boxer engine and the Lineartronic CVT.

All-Wheel Drive Changes the Tire Rules

This is the single most important thing Subaru owners need to know: symmetrical AWD requires all four tires to be closely matched in circumference. Replacing just one worn tire, or letting rotations slide, forces the center differential to absorb a constant speed difference, and that is how expensive driveline damage happens. We measure tread depth across all four corners at every visit and tell you honestly when you need one tire, two, or a full set.

Boxer Engine Realities

The horizontally opposed engine is compact and low, which helps handling, but it places the head gaskets and oil separator plate in positions where seepage is common as the vehicle ages. Head gasket weeping on older EJ-series engines and oil consumption on certain FB25 engines are both well-documented patterns. We inspect for the early signs — pink residue at the block seam, a burning smell after shutdown, oil level dropping between changes — rather than waiting for an overheat.

CVT Service Matters More Than the Manual Suggests

Subaru lists the CVT fluid as long-life on many models, but in practice, fluid that has never been changed at 100,000 miles is degraded fluid. We recommend a drain and fill using Subaru High Torque CVT fluid at sensible intervals, especially for vehicles that tow, climb, or spend winters in stop-and-go traffic.

Winter Tires Do More Than All-Wheel Drive Does

This surprises Subaru owners, so it is worth stating plainly. All-wheel drive helps you accelerate. It does essentially nothing for stopping or steering on ice, and those are the two things that prevent accidents. A Subaru on four winter tires is dramatically more capable than the same Subaru on worn all-seasons, and the difference is largest exactly when conditions are worst. We are not trying to sell you tires you do not need — if your all-seasons have good tread and you drive mostly plowed roads, we will say so. But if you commute over Route 101 in February, four winter tires are the single best safety investment available to you.
