Rivians have arrived in New England in real numbers, and the R1T and R1S are well suited to the region — serious all-wheel-drive capability, usable ground clearance, and enough range for most winter driving. What they still need is everything that touches the road. Auto Care Plus services Rivian vehicles at our New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Maine locations.
Heavy Vehicles Are Hard on Tires
An R1T weighs more than a full-size gasoline pickup and delivers instant torque at all four wheels. Tires wear accordingly, and alignment accuracy has a larger effect on tire life than it does on a lighter vehicle. We align to specification and can fit and store winter tires, which make an enormous difference on these vehicles in snow.
Brakes Need Attention Because They Are Underused
Regenerative braking does the large majority of the stopping on a Rivian, which means the friction brakes rarely get hot. In a salt climate that causes caliper slide pins to seize, rotors to develop deep surface corrosion, and pads to bond to rotors. Periodic brake cleaning, hardware lubrication, and inspection are genuinely more important on an EV here than on a gasoline vehicle, and it is a service many owners never think to request.
Suspension, Alignment, and Glass
Air suspension components, control arm bushings, and wheel bearings all wear, and a heavy vehicle on New England roads works them hard. We also handle auto glass replacement, including the ADAS camera calibration that follows a windshield replacement on a vehicle equipped with driver assistance systems.
Towing, Payload, and Range Reality
An R1T is rated to tow a genuinely useful amount, and towing affects range more dramatically than it affects fuel economy in a gasoline truck — often cutting it close to half depending on trailer profile and speed. That is physics rather than a defect, but it changes trip planning substantially, and it is worth understanding before you hitch up for a long weekend. Towing also loads brakes, suspension, and tires harder, so we recommend inspection before and after towing season. Hitch hardware and trailer wiring corrode over a New England winter like they do on any truck, and checking them in May beats discovering them in July.
Service Without the Wait
Brakes, tires, alignment, suspension, cabin filtration, and glass are available at every Auto Care Plus location, typically far sooner than a mobile service or service center appointment.
