The VQ V6 Is a Strong Engine
The VQ-series V6 has powered Infiniti for decades and is genuinely durable. Its known items are manageable: timing chain tensioner wear at high mileage, valve cover gasket leaks, and oil consumption on certain applications. The engine itself, maintained on a sensible oil interval, will run a very long time.
CVT and Transmission Considerations
Models using a CVT share the same reality as their Nissan counterparts — fluid condition and operating temperature determine lifespan. The QX60 in particular benefits from earlier fluid service than the maintenance schedule suggests, especially if it carries a full load of family and gear, which is what most of them do. The Q50 uses a conventional automatic with different but equally real fluid service needs.
Electronics and the Battery Connection
Infinitis carry a dense network of modules, adaptive systems, and driver assistance features that are sensitive to voltage.
